Although it’s the capital of San Salvador, Cockburn Town (pronounced “Coburn”) is one of the smallest communities in the Out Islands, and definitely old-world Bahamian. Two miles south of Riding Rock Inn and 2½ miles south of Club Med, it’s little more than a collection of clapboard and cinder block houses. Most of the sights are on or close to Fifth Avenue, just across the street from the dock. It’s here you’ll land if you decide to visit the island via mail boat.
