Ruined, the family ironically sold the building a century later to the wife of Cosimo I, Elenora di Toledo, who was eager to flee the sobriety of the Palazzo Vecchio, and the Grand-Dukes of Tuscany continued to inhabit and enlarge it for three centuries. With a 200-m/656-ft façade, this is by far the largest palace constructed in the Renaissance and built entirely of gigantic blocks.
